Is there anyway to repair a tv from water damage?

i have a 50 in hitachi rear projection lcd hdtv and on the inside of the screen, there is some water damage on the screen. so, if you're watchin tv, you can see that one part is darker then the other. do i have to buy a new screen or is there a cleaner or something that i can get?
