Would the president be justified in firing the professor?Why or why not?

The problem is a professor of mathematics believes that women are intellectually inferior to men and he has publicly expressed his views orally and in writing. He has acknowledged to be an excellent math teacher and a talented scholar who has published widely in his field. However, female students have petitioned the president of the college to fire him because of his views. So, would the president be justified in firing him? Why or why not?
